William R. Smith

William (Bill) R. Smith , 78, of Copley, passed away December 8,  2023 after a long illness. Bill was born on June 16, 1945 to Otis and Betty in Akron. Bill graduated from Kenmore High School in 1963 and went to work for Otie’s Automotive.  

Bill had success in multiple drag racing divisions throughout the 60’s and 70’s,  including several class wins across the country in AA gas dragster. Bill then went on to race off road buggies and late model stock cars into the 80’s. 

Bill is survived by wife, Kay (Leedy); son, Aaron Smith; daughter, Heather Smith; and grandchildren, McKenzie Smith and Marissa Smith. 

A celebration of life will take place in the spring. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to Summa Hospice or your favorite charity.  Condolences may be shared with the family online at www.heritagecremationsociety.com
